1 Nephi 3:7

One of the things I really love about Seminary is the Scripture Mastery program. The leaders of the church have selected 25 scriptures from each of the 4 standard works for Seminary students to read, memorize, be able to locate easily and explain. These 25 scriptures and the process of learning them is what makes up the Scripture Mastery program. Since these scriptures are important to all of us (not just seminary students) and since I am already spending a lot of time preparing to teach them, I thought we could spend some of our devotional time talking about and learning them too. So... today we start at the beginning with 1 Nephi 3:7
And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.

Of course, this is a scripture you already know but as you read it this time I want you to think about and prepare to answer the following questions:

Who is talking?
nephi

What is he willing to do?
go to get the gold plates

Why is he willing to do it?
god asked him to and he knows god's work is important

What are the consequences of his choice to obey?
god will help him get to the promised land safely

Fro the last couple of years Grampa and I have been having our morning devotionals reading the new Testament and the Doctrine and Covenants. A month ago we started back on the Book of Mormon and we are reading about Nephi and his journey right now again. I have been so happy to get back to the Book of Mormon again, we have a testimony that it is so true...every word of it!

Love the new photo on your blog Spencer. Wow! What a handsome grown up young man you are!
